Cleaverville Beach- Near karratha
HI
We came across a nice little spot about halfway between Roeboune and Karratha.
The road in is a dirt road suitable for 5th wheelers but drive to the conditions obviously.
Plenty of sites, some shaded, some sandy and right on the beach. Great fishing and mud crabbing, be better if you had a small tinny to get away from the rocks.
Caretaker onsite during peak periods, $7.50 per night or $45 for the week. Has dump point and rubbish dump. Must have chemical toilet to stay. Take own water or available from Roebourne and Karratha visitor centres for a donation.
Generators, campfires and dogs welcome.
We stayed 3 weeks! can get windy at times.

Re: Cleaverville Beach- Near karratha
Cleaverville is truely one of the great camps along the W.A. coast. We have been going there for years. There are rumblings from the local council about making changes to this site but it would be much better left as it is now. The fishing is great, especially if you have a boat and can get to the reefs out the back of Dixon Island. Mud crabbing is usually good and you can catch blue swimmer crabs out of the mouth of Cleaverville Creek in front of teh two small islands. There are reports of crocodiles moving into this area now so be croc wise here.

we loved it, hope they dont close it. The crocs must be getting adventurous heading that far south.

From all reports crocs are now at least as far south west as Onslow and moving further every year. As long as they are not culled they will move as far south as the climate allows. There is one very old report of a croc once being sighted as far south as Shark Bay.
Re: Cleaverville Beach- Near karratha
The road in to Cleaverville is still unsealed but it has been upgraded in the past couple of years and is no longer a major obstacle when it rains.
Following are some notes we made about the site:
Cleaverville (Caretaker on site and fees payable Apr-Sep)
The gravel Road. to Cleaverville is 19Km E of the Karratha turn off. The beach is 13Km from the Highway. and is one of the best camp sites we have been to. When you reach the T junction near the coast bear right towards the main camp site - the other road. goes down to Cleaverville Creek. where big rigs could have trouble turning round.
In 2006 there were no bins at the site and rubbish must had to be taken to skips near the exit road. This changed again recently when bins returned to the campsite.
There are silage (sullage) points but no toilets.
Bring your own firewood for camp fires.
The camp site is right next to the beach and fishing in the vicinity is excellent in warmer weather.
Access is easy for even the largest mobile home, and there are usually no problems finding a suitable site or turning round when you reach the beach.
The track to Cleaverville used to become impassable during the rainy season but this has been greatly improved now.
TV & mobile phone reception are both good here.
There is a time limit of 3 months.
The road in can be quite rough if it has been left un-graded for a while.
Update 2005: There are plans to change the open camping style of Cleaverville and put in bays, close off areas to camping and generally spoil the wonderful spot it is now. The Roebourne Council is currently undertaking a study which does not include any input being sought from those who use the area.
We suggest that those who do use and love the area write to the council and make your views known before it is too late.
The campsite gets VERY crowded during peak season (June-August).
If you are going to visit this area and plan to go fishing in a boat then be aware that the wind will seriously hamper your efforts. We have seen people come up here for 4 weeks and only get out fishing on 2-3 days.
In three months we usually average 19 days fishing in the boat but the fishing is so good that this is always more than enough to keep us in fish for weeks after we leave.
